John Maine

Shaky Start for the NY Mess

The 2010 NY Mets look a lot like the 2009 NY Mets - terrible.

Just 7 games into the season, and the NY Mets have found the basement of the NL East. Every ESPN Analyst on the planet predicted that the Mets would suck, but every Met fan on the planet kept that little thought in the back of their mind; "Yea we sucked last year, but everyone was hurt! imagine if they were all healthy!!"

Well yea, I had the same thought, but like every other NY Mets season it would seem, those thoughts were dashed.

Seriously: look at the Mets over the past 10 seasons...

Mets Rumor: Relief for Roy Halladay

The sad thing is the Mets aren't going to get Roy Halladay for John Maine and Carlos Delgado. However, the rumor is that Mets actually do have something the Blue Jays may be interested in.

Currently the Blue Jays are dead last in the American League with only 15 saves on the season. Their 58% save conversion percentage is good for third worst in the AL. The rumor is that they are interested in acquiring, preferably young and talented bullpen help.

Rotational Drama

With the Mets already improving the bullpen for the 2009 season the focus now turns to another glaring weakness...the starting rotation. Obviously 'Slowhand' Santana will be up for another Cy Young winning campaign this year, and with Mike Pelfry's emergence last season the front end looks pretty good. John Maine is in a make it or brake it year.

Maine Event

John Maine and the New York Mets capped a 6 game west coast trip with a dominating performance against Brad Penny and the LA Dodgers. Although the Mets only managed 3 wins during the trip, a 12-1 victory in LA gives them confidence that they are still among the elite teams in the National League. Not only did the offense come alive, but John Maine's 8 1/3 innings allowed the NY Mets bullpen some time to rest and relax. I might have been pretty peeved if I was taken out so close to a complete game, but Maine seemed fairly reasonable in his response.

Mets Maine Man

Last season was a bit of a coming of age for John Maine. The first half of the season he looked like a rising star, but like the rest of the New York Mets-Miserables, he faded down the home stretch. He did have one of the strongest outings for a Mets starter in the second half last season when he struck out 14 Marlins over 7 2/3 innings in late September. Unfortunately it was the last Mets win of the season, and it was too little too late to catch the Phillies. Maine is slated to be the Mets #3 man this year, and hopes are high that he will be better prepared to endure the long season.
